While not a normal part of my research portfolio, I have single-sided-deafness which has given me the opportunity to bring apply my engineering and technology skills to help address the hearing loss. The result is an eclectic mix of resources.
In some ways, this embodies the idea of ETA. I have chosen to not ignore my hearing loss in my left ear but to address it. Hearing aids were not a solution for my case, it required more extreme treatments. I use two very different technologies, one that is more akin to mechanical engineering and the other more based in electrical engineering. Over the years, I have tracked and analyzed the data in relatively unique ways.
